Hailing from Kerala, Pittu is the Sri Lankan version of this simple but tasty main dish, made up of rice flour and desiccated coconut. Traditionally consumed for breakfast, it has evolved into a nighttime specialty as well.
What You Need
- Harischandra Pittu & Roti Mixture
- 150ml (about 3/4 of a tea cup) of water
- Pittu bambu (steamer)
- Lunu miris and coconut milk to serve with Pittu
Method
Step 1: Empty contents of the Harischandra Pittu & Roti Mixture in to a bowl.
Step 2: Add 150ml (about 3/4 of a tea cup) of water little by little while making small flour granules.
Step 3: Fill a pittu bambu (steamer) with prepared flour granules.
Step 4: Steam the mixture using a pittu bambu (about 20 minutes).
Step 5: Remove the steamed pittu and serve prepared delicious pittu with lunu miris and coconut milk.
